CC development team wanted a simple rugged pen without a cap, and minimal moving parts and distractions for use in the shop. There are no distractors on this pen. It's stiff straight shaft provides a comfortable grip for extended use. Theres sufficient thread engaged with the barrel to maintain a solid connection, and theres enough friction in the threads such that the tail cap wont accidentally unscrew the rest
